The Advocates: Local Municipalities Recognized at the MASC Annual Meeting

It was a big year for our region at the MASC Annual Meeting. Over 200 cities and towns gathered in Greenville for a three-day conference that included networking, workshops and educational programs. The conference also included an awards luncheon, where two of our very own municipalities were recognized for their accomplishments.

The City of Goose Creek, for the second year straight, received an Achievement Award to recognize their incredible marketing and communications work. The city has taken public engagement to new heights with their social media presence and ‘Adopt a Goose’ program.

The Town of Mount Pleasant received an Achievement Award to recognize their innovative opioid crisis partnership. The Town has partnered with WakeUp Carolina, a peer-based recovery support organization, to address the opioid crisis and provide resources for citizens. Mount Pleasant Police Department has reported a 40% decrease in opioid overdoes after one year of implementing the program.

Additionally, Gregory Habib, Mayor of Goose Creek, was sworn in as President of MASC this year. Mayor Habib continues to be a leader in our region and across South Carolina.

We congratulate both Goose Creek and Mount Pleasant for their incredible leadership and dedication to excellence. My colleague, Bailey Vincett and I enjoyed the opportunity to attend the conference and support our local government partners.
