Charleston Metro Chamber Launches People First Scorecard to Track Regional Progress

At its inaugural Vision 2025 event on May 8, the Charleston Metro Chamber officially launched the People First Scorecard—a data-driven tool designed to track regional progress across four critical areas that directly impact economic growth and quality of life: attainable housing, a skilled workforce, multi-faceted regional transportation and high-quality, affordable childcare.

The Scorecard, developed with support from a $100,000 grant from Truist Charitable Fund, is a central component of the Chamber’s People First strategic plan. This community-driven initiative is focused on strengthening the Charleston region’s long-term economic vitality by putting people at the center of business and policy decisions.

“Launching the Scorecard is a major milestone for our region,” said Kevin T. Sheilley, President and CEO of the Charleston Metro Chamber. “This tool gives us a clear, honest look at where we stand today and where we need to go. It will help us align around solutions that improve lives, support business growth and move our region forward—while creating the accountability needed to ensure we stay on track.”

The People First Scorecard offers a focused set of metrics within each of the plan’s four pillars and includes additional regional data to provide broader context. It is designed to serve as a living tool—updated regularly, openly accessible and built to inform decisions that lead to lasting impact.

“Truist is proud to support the Chamber’s bold People First initiative,” said Mark Lattanzio, Coastal Market President for Truist. “We believe this work addresses our region’s most pressing challenges and the Scorecard gives us a meaningful way to track real progress.”

The People First plan was developed through extensive visioning sessions with business leaders, community members and regional partners. Its goal is to create real momentum around complex challenges by aligning the private sector with community needs and policy action.
